We have included 38 warm up activities to promote knowledge of civics and preparation for citizenship among students in ELL Level 1 and 2 classes. Included are instructions, suggestions, and materials for 38 short (5-20 minutes each) civics mini-lessons, one for the beginning of each class during a semester. The lessons are based on the Level 1/2 ALP civics objectives: U.S. Geography; Symbols and Holidays; A Growing Nation; and Famous Americans, and include the answers to a number of the 128 questions that those studying for the naturalization test must answer. In addition, a number of language objectives can be covered in each activity. Amounts of time and degree of detail covered in each lesson will depend on the skills of the students in the class.
